PAEROA HOSPITAL.

BOROUGH COUNCIL DISCUSSION. RESOLUTION TO MINISTER. In receiving notification from the , Thames Hospital Board of the amount of the annual levy required from the Paeroa Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) stated at last night’s meeting that the information g)ven wa& a fitting introduction) to a discussion, about the progress made with reference to the erection of a maternity and casualty hospital at Paeroa. Cr. P. E. Brein.an, the council’s representative on the hospital Board an'l a member of the deputation which waited on the -Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) at Hamilton on May 30, briefly outlined the. position a® it stand® at the.present time, and which has already been published in these columns, ip the opinion of Cr. Brenajn the resolution carried 1 by a majority of the Hospital Board- mem. bers at the meeting on Monday last was only a further attempt to defer the erection of the building. The members were adopting a very stubborn attitude. The Mayor said it was quite evidtent that the board did not intend to erect the hospital, in spite of the Minister’s decision and the fact that the board was definitely committeed to do so. It extraordinary attitude for the board to adopt, and he would move : “That this council forward to the Minister of Health its sincere appreciation of the stand that he has taken, in the matter of the erection of a maternity hospital at Paeroa, and in view of the attitude of the Thames Hospital .Board towards the- Minister’s definite request, this coun/cil earnestly petitions the Minister to proceed with the erection of the institution at an early date.” Seconded' by Cr. F. E. Flatt and carried unanimously.
