SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
PLUNKET NURSE INJURED.
STRUCK BY MOTOR LORRY.
A serious accident befell Miss Mar jorie Houghton, of Te Aroha., O n Fri. day evening.
M'i ; ss Houghton, who is a Plunket Society .nurse, was walking along the middle of the roadway in Taylor’s Avenue, going towards the station, and wheeling a bicycle, when a. heavy motor lorry, driven by Mr George Neil, came up behind her on its correct side of the roa.d. Almost as the lorry drew level with her, Miss Houghton appeared to step right into its path. The driver had no chance of avoiding her, and she was struck by the radiator of the lorry and thrown heavily to the ground clear of the vehicle, but the bicycle fell under the lorry. It. was seen that Miss Houghton was badly injured l , and Mr Neil, with the assistance of Mr D. S. Kerr, picked her up and, hailing a passing taxi, conveyed her to Dr. Little’s surgery. The injuries were mainly to the head, several- deep cuts being sustained, and minor bruising. After receiving attention Miss Houghton was driven to the Thames Hospital.
