THAMES VALLEY POWER.
THE CHAIRMAN’S REPORT.
RESUME OF YEAR’S OPERATIONS.
At the annual meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power BQajd at Te Aroha on Tuesday the chairman (Mr F. M. Strange) presented the following report:— ‘‘l have much pleasure in presenting a general review of last year’s operations of the .Thames Vallejy Electric Power Board. “The shortage of power owing to the unfortunate delay at Arapuni has _ necessitated your board considering very carefully any demand for freph supply, and while there has been sufficient power available to meet the. natural increase on old lines, great ■ care has had to be exercised with re. gard to extensions. “One result of the shortage has been that the dairy companies, working under the three-party agreements, ■have had to take the’r own load£, thereby causing a considerable reduction in the board’s revenue. A conference was held between this board, the N-Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., and Mr Kissel, and a workable agreement was drawn to enable the board to supply the z factories until Arapun-i comes, in. Unfortunately a. misunderstanding has ;a.riesn regarding the interore.tation of the agreement. Negotiat ons are now under, way which we trust will soon clear the matter up. “A nejv line has been- built to supply the Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines Co., which is taking a night load of approximately 100 h.p. The company is now demanding a continuous supply, w’hich we will be able to give in about three months, by which time we anticipate that the cable will be laid across the new Hauraki Bridge. “The eve.r.varying a.nd increasing lo.ads have necessitated considerable alterations in the sizes and positions of various transformers, besides the changing over of .a number of lines from 3000 to 11,000 volts, the principal of which are Ngutumanga. Road, Te Poi-Tfeihoa road, Nos. 7,9, and 2 roads, and Alexandra Road. “During the year your board received a temporary supply at Kerepeehi on two feeders. The permanent station is now almost complete, the board having installed six cubicles, enabling the dividing' of the load on six feeder® and thereby reducing the area on the Plains .affected in caise of a breakdown, on any of the lines. “The department has arrange,d to give another feed point at Matamata which, when completed, will give the Matamata and Te Poi districts a, very much better service. “During the year, your board purchased 22,669,688 units at a cost of £33,390', .as against 19,876,401 units at a cost of £31,437 for the previous year. The sajes of electricity amounted to £107,534, as against £93,047 for the previous year. The trading department again show’s a satisfactory., working balance. M** “Our sinking funds have now reached the amount of £54,801, representing an increase of £11,613 for the year, besides which an amount of £4540 has been set .aside —in accordance with the new Regauations—for depreciation. “The year’s working shows, a loss of £2265, which has been met by a, transfer from renewals and interest reserves. Our, interest reserve now stands at £11,700. “The year has been .a most anxious one for your officers and executive. The shortage of power, the stoppages at Horahora, losses occasioned through restricted supply to the dairy factories, and ‘daylight saving’ hdve all added to the responsibilties of the board’s officers and staff, -and -1 > wish to again express my appreciation of the splendid spirit in. which they have met all difficulties. “I wish to Convey to the members of the board my appreciation of the keen interest they have taken in all matters concerned with the board’s works ami for. the loyal support they - have given me during the past year. “In cO|nelusjon. I would like to extend to the members of the Press the • boa.rd’s thanks, for the careful and impartial manner in which they have reported the business of the board.”
