HAURAKI COUNTY RATES.

SOME NEW PAYMENTS.
Tliq rates for the Hauraki Plains County in 1928-29 were fixed by the County Council on, Wednesday. The treasurer, Mr E. A. Mahoney, submitted the following report:— “Herewith I have the honour to submit for, your consideration estimates for the year ending March 31. 1929.
“Estimates. of general receipts and payments, and of rate arrears, have been based- according to custom on past results:. The estimates of reading and works requirements in. ridings have been supplied by the engineer. The latter have been summarised in tne estimates from data furnished by the engineer, who 'has retained a detailed statement of these requirements.
“The general rates recommended for the several ridings.,, with last year’s rate in parentheses., are as follows
“Turua, l%d (2d) ; Kopua.rahi, 2%d (2%d) ; Horahia, (2%) ; Kerepe.ehi, 2d (2%d) ; Netherton, l%d (2d) ; P.atetonga ,2%d (2%d) ; Ngatea, 2%d (2%d) ; Pipiroa, 2%d (2%d); Waitakaruru, 2,%d (2?4d). Turua Town, rate pro rata, in accordance with sta.tute.
“The above rates are recommended with a view to meeting requirements as shown in the estimates, and generally to carry a reserve to the credit of ridings tot meet future Contingencies without having to resort to the necessity of increasing the general rate.
“The. Pipiroa Riding ra.te is estimated on the assumption that Hopai Road work will, be undertaken in whole this year. Several other ridings have future requirements to meet which ai;e not apparent at present. but will be necessary probably next yeaj;.” The rates as recommended were adopted with the exception of that for, Pipiroa Riding, which was fixed at W. SPECIAL RATES. The following special rates were also recommended :— Hospital %d, Orchard Bridge 14d, Kopu Ferry l-24d ) Kopu Ferry Approach Roa.ds %cl, Puriri Ferry %d, Wai'hou Bridge l-16d, Tahuna Roads Id, Waitakaruru Roads %d', Netherton Roads %d, Turua-Nether.ton Roads 4d, Waitakaruru-Maukoro Roa.d l%d, Machinery Nd. 1 5-16 d, Machinery No. 23-16 d, Horahi a Roads Id, Ttirua Town Roads 4%d, TuruaOrpngo Road Ngataipua East Road %d, Maukoro Bridge l-40d, Hau. raki Bridge 3-16 d, Horahia-Opou 4-sd, Netherboin. Roads, 192'5, 2%d, Pekapek.a Water l%d, Kerepeehi Roa.ds Id, Turua-Netherton Supplementary %d, Ngataipua East, 1928, Id', Ngatea Riding %d, West Water Supply, to be struck when procedure is completed.
The rates were adopted. In view of the reduction in valuation of some land in the WaitakaruruMaukoro Canal Road Loan special, rating area, the council passed a spe. cial order increasing the rate to provide the same amount of money.
