PAEROA RUGBY UNION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
The management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union held its weekly meeting on Monday night, the chair* man (Mr W. P. Pennell) presiding over Father J. T. Taylor, Messrs MCrosby, L. E. Shaw, E. Edwards, HTams, and D. S. Kerr (secretary). JUNIOR MATCH WITH THAMES. The Physical Training Club, Thames, wrote asking if the unio|n could ar.ra.nge a third-grade match to be played at Paeroa on June'4. It was decided to grant the request ami to refer the matter to the thirdgrade selector, Mr. G. Sale. The secretary was appointed manager, with authority to arrange for ments.•MATCH WITH TAURANGA. A letter was received from the Tauranga. Rugby Union inquiring if Pae* r.oa could send a representative team to Tauranga towards thq end of June. The chairman favoured the proposition. The only date available was June 23. The chairman said that the transport of players was the difficulty, as the trains did not suit. It meant playing in new terr'tory, and Paeroa would receive a return match during the 1929 season. Finally it was agreed to write to Tauranga and ask if that union equid postpone the match until towards the, end of July. In the meiantime the selector would be .asked to ascertain the, feelings of the team selected to play for, the Poland Memorial Cup. GAMES WITH THAMES. With reference to the dates, submitted by the Thames Union, namely, June 16 and 30 for a match at Paeroa and return at Thames, the chairman said that these dates clashed with the Poland Cup fixtures. After some discussion it was, resolved to explain the position to Thames and submit June 23 for, the match Jit Paeroa and a date early in August for the return match. JOHNSTON CUP. The' secretary suggested that a challenge should be sent to Thames for the Johnston Cup. It would encourage the junior teams. A* resolution deciding to, enter a challenge was carried unanimously. CASE OF H. McKEE. The case of H. McKee was considered, but as; there was no appearance of the player or a letter from him before the. meeting it was resolved that hig application, for transfer from the West seniors to the East seniors be refused. GENERAL. 1 The secretary reported that the gate receipts at Paero.a on Saturday last amounted to £7. Accounts totalling £1 18s 6d were passed for payment. F. Thompson and I. Gollop were registered and allotted, to the East juniors. The West club advised that Messrs C. Snow and J- Verr,an) had been appointed the club’s delegates to the union.
HAURAKI PLAINS UNION.
MEETING AT NGATEA.
The Hauraki Plains Rugby Union met at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr H. Dent presiding over Messrs; YV. Madgwick and W. Taylor (Turua), A. H. McClean and- C. A. Hayward (Wai. - takaruru), E. Clay and A. Courtney (Kerepeehi), C. S. Foster (Ngatea), E. L. Walton (Hauraki Plains West), GT. Davidson. (Referees’ Association.), and W. P. Wylde (secreta'-y). MATCH WITH SOUTH AUCKLAND. The Thames Valley Rugby Union passed on a letter it had received from the South Auckland; sub-union a.sking fur a match on a Wednesday or Thursday.
The president expressed the opinion that a week-day match was njot desirable-
The secretary was instructed to ask the South Auckland Union to submit a date on a Saturday in August. A return match would be offered ( both to be on fifty percentage, of the gate receipts basis. POLAND CUP MATCHES.
Arising out of the report of- theunion’s delegates to the Thames Valley Union meeting, arrangements for the; Poland Cup competition, which commences on June 16, were discuss," ed. A committee wasi set up to arrange for transportation. Mr W. Madgwick was appointed manager of the seniors and Mr. C. Bertelsen manager of the juniors. THAMES MATCHES. The Thames Rugby Union notified that challenge for the Birch Cup would be received up till Augu&t 31. Challenges for the Johnston Cup would be received up tilj. May 31. •Mr. Foster expressed the opinion that the trip was too expensive. The Plains team had gone over year after year and had only had one match in return in the past four years. Mr Madgwick suggested home a.nd home matches instead of a challenge match. Mr. Hayward urged' issuing a challenge and asking for a return match. A member pointed out that Paeroa had been refused a; return match. Mr Dent supported home and home matches only. Mr. Hayward said that if the financial position of the Plains Union was pointed out the Thames Union might be persuaded to give a return, match. A test motion declining to challenge for the cup was defea.ted', and finallv it was decided that the Thames Uniion be asked for a home and home match, and if acceptable the match at Thames could be considered a challenge for the Birch Cup. It wag also decided that the same conditions wou)|d apply for the Johnston Cup. ' JUNIOR COMPETITION. In view of the failure of the Waitakar.uru Club to field a junior grade team it was suggested! that in order to obviate the number of byes a redraw be made, and that two more rounds be played. As several of the c]ubs had spare players, it was also
suggested that a composite team be organised. After a thorough investigation it was agreed that an effort be made W build up the Wa.itakaruru team with Kerepeehi and Turua men. SCHOOLS COMPETITION. The secretary was instructed to get the interschool competition for the Terrill Cup under way. . INSURANCE. Dr. T. Miljer, Turua, was the union’s doctor, for its insurant® scheme in place of Dr. E. R. Lange. JY The secretary urged club officials to ma.ke all players familiar with the rules of the insurance scheme, as some injured players were likely to lose the benefit by rqaseta of irregularities. FRIENDLY MATCH. The Kercpeehi club was granted permission to play a Te Aroha club on Saturday next. LINE UMPIRES. The Turua club forwarded a, resolution po’nting out that some line umpires did not conform to the rules of the game. The union was asked to act. Mr Taylor stated that a line umpire had gone on to the field and caught hold of a player He had not seen the incident, but had been given te understand that the umpire had exceeded his duty. The matter was mentioned to give the referees a lead to appoint competent mean TIME OF COMMENCING. The Turua cljib wrote suggesting that club matches should commence at 2 p.m.
It was agreed tha.t games start at 2.30 p.m., as at present.
