MATCHES ON PLAINS. LAST SATURDAY’S RESULTS. The Hauraki Plains Rugby competitions were continued on Saturday last in showery weather.. At Tur.ua the Waitakaruru seniors were beaten by five points to -nfl, and at Ngatea the home team beat Keren peehi by eight to three. In the. junior game at Ngatea the Kerepeehi team was beaten by nine points to six. Waitakaruru failed to send a junior team to Turua. The referee in tlie Turua match had occasion to suspend E. Gill for disputing a decision, and the referee in. the senior match at Ngatea suspended W. O’Nei* for rough play and for striking an opponent. NGATEA V. KEREPEEHI. A hard, fast game resulted when the Ngatea and Kerepeehi seniors met at Ngatea. The Kerepeehi pack was much the heavier, and in the dose work was dangerous, but Ngatea endeavoured to make the game open and; thereby run tihe heavy Kerepeehi forwards to a standstill. The teams were as follows.— Kerepeehi.—B. Moore, E. Potter, ACourtney, N. Baggs,' H. Wright, ABurt, W. Kidd, L. Harefield', E. Fisher,, D. Hill, R. Fisher, R. Hutchinson, F. Mulgrew, H. Elvin, T. Renata. •Ngatea.— A. Kilgour, W. Williams, C. Young, Donovan, J. McPherson, F. Nicol, White, s. Dalgety, H. Kirkman, L. Peckham, R. c. Abel, P. Leonard, D. Hutchnison, W. O’Neil, R. Hawera. Kerepeehi kicked off and found the line. From' the throW-in Ngatea r.'er turned to halfway. Kerepeehi'backs got going and Baggs found the line near the corner., play then, returned to neutral territory, and after a, loose rush Kerepeehi was awardled a free kick, but R. Fisher failed to score-. After, loose play in midfield R- Fisher led the Kerepeehi pack into Ngatea’s territory, but the defenders soon returned to neutral ground-, the forwards following up the kicks) of the backs. Ngatea had .the advantage in the scrums, but lost ground in loose play. Kilgour, Ngatea’s, full-iback, was very safe. After Fisher had again failed with a penalty kick Kerepeehi pushed over the line and Ficher scored. The kick failed. Kerepeelij 3, Ng;atea 0. The second quarter opened iwth tight play, during which Ngatea gradually worked up the field for McPherson to score. Kirkman failed to convert. .Kerepeehi 3, Ngatea 3. With Ngatea defending, a bright rush was indulged in which ended: by Kerepeehi forcing. For. the remainder of the quarter, Kerepeehi remained on the defensive, and had to force; several, times. . .
On resuming after half-time Kerepeehi went on the attack. .Harefield and Fisher b'oth failed with penalty kicks, and a long kick by Mulgrew was forced. Tight play then followed in midfiejd, and Young- made a good run into Kerepeehi’s twenty-five, where Moore, relieved. Kerepeehi secured from a. scrum and 1 the backs, put in a good run until, Elvin mulled. Shortly after commencing the final round* a, forward rusi’h by Ngatea terminatedl in a hard Hack, . which was followed up by O’Neil for a try. McPherson, converted. Ngatea 8, Kerepeehi 3. Kerepeehi rushed to the other end of the field, but could not pass Kilgour. A hfard struggle eventuated in Ngate-a’s territory until Nicol relieved, an d open playf ollowed in 'midfield- Mulgrew received an- injury and was replaced by J. Baggs. Hard forward play continued until, the call of time. ,W. O’Neil was sus-* pended in the Last minute- of the game for. rough play. •Mr J. Kidd was referee. THE J’ONIOR GAME. The. junior game was played on an adjoining field, arid resulted in a win for Ngatea by 9 to 6. Tries were scored for Ngatea by H. Spinks, JHartley, and JF. Franks, and for Kerepeehi -S’. Sparrow, and L. Schultz each scored a try, one 'of which wasconverted by Sparrow. Tfeirua did 1 not score. ‘ . .
