PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
MEETING OF NEW COMMITTEE.
mr. j. c. h. McDonald chairman.
The first meeting of the newly elected committee of the Paieroa District High School was held; on Friday night, when there were present Messrs W. T. Power, W. N. Chamberlain, C. T. Mettam, J. C. H. McDonald, W. Pcrston, R. W. Lowry, W. C. Alexander, W. L. Lawrence (secretary), and G. H. Taylor (headmaster). The. secretary took the chair, and explained that owing to there not ber ing a quorum at the annual meeting of householders on; April 30 it had not been possible to elect a chairman or transact any business apart from th« annual meeting. He then called for nominations for the positibn of chairman.
The retiring chairman (Mr W. T. Power) explained that it was not his intention to seek office this year, owing to the fact that his work was likely to take- him away from Paeroafor some time, and also because, he fe.lt that the position should go round, hi moving that Mr McDonald be chairman'for the ensuing twelve months Mr. Power expressed his thanks to Mr McDonald, who had- just completed a. term as deputy-chairman, and referred to the sterling work he had done over a period of some months while tlic speaker was absent from Paeroa.
Continuing, Mr Power said that much good work had been done during the past year, the outstanding undertaking being the erecting and equipping of the dental clinic. To the members, of the outgoing committee and the headmaster, he wished to extend: his sincere thanks, and he assured the meeting that as a committeeman he would continue to do all he could to assist, but he was unable to accept the responsibility of office. By mutual support, co-operation, and enthusiasm much had been accomplished last year, and although the new committee had a busy year ahead of it he hoped the same harmonious relations would continue and.that another year; of useful work would be carried out. In seconding tiie motion Mr Chamberlain referred to the valuable assistance freely given by Mr McDonald, particularly in connection wiit,h the dental clinic. There being no further nominations Mr McDonald was declared duly elected, and he took his seat amid 'applause. In returning thanks Mr McDonald said that he was conscious of the; honour conferred upon him, and added that it would be his constant endeavour 'to do all -he could, for the welfare and advancement of the school.
In extending a welcome to the new members the chairman, expressed the hope that they would, find the work interesting and would experience a happy term of office. He also referred to the help and co-operation received from the 'headmaster, and' wished him and his school continued success and. every happinesss. MR. POWER CONGRATULATED.
The chairman said he regretted that Mr Power was unable to accept office for a 1 further term. Mr' Power had pn ved himself a good general, and had been responsible for much good work being done, and his advice and judgment would be very valuable as a committeeman. The speaker moved that thanks, and congratulations be extended to Mr Power, and that his record of services be placed in the minute-book. In. seconding, Mr Mettam said that Mi Power had made an ideal chairman, and it was to be regretted that he could not carry on for a further term in that office. The resolution was carried with acclamation. DEPUTY-CHAIRMAN. On the motion of Mr, Chamberlain, seconded by the chairman, Mr Mettam was elected deputy-chairman. MEETING NIGHT. It was resolved that the regular meeting night be the second Saturday in *he month, but that the May meeting be held on the 19th instant. SIGNING AUTHORITY. The chairman or Mr Alexander witn the treasurer were appointed to operate on. the school fund and dental clinic bank accounts. TRIBUTE TO MR. PASCOE. In moving that the committee place on record the; long and valuable services, extending over a. period.: of twelve-.years, given by -Mr C. 'H. Pascoe, who has this yqar resigned, the chairman paid a high tribute to his devotion.' to the cause -of the school, both as a committeeman and during the two years that lie 'had bec;n chairman. His less to the committee would be severely felt, and it was with regret that his resignation was accepted. Several members also referred i» eulogistic terms to t'he length of valuable service given by Mr Pascoe. In accepting the resignations of Messrs W. Purdie!, R. J. Thorp, and JW. sllcock with regret it was also resolved to record appreciation: and’ thanks for the good work done and willing co-operation and help re-’ ceived. . EQUIPMENT FOR CLINIC. It was resolved to place an opening door over t'he louvre at the dental clinic, and the secretary was authorised to purchase an ele.ctric hqatcr for tlie operating room. REPAIRS TO TYPEWRITERS. In reply to a. letter from the supervisor of the manual and technical branch asking for am estimate to be forwarded showing the cost of repairs to six typewriters, it was decided to advise that such an estimate could not be obtained at Paeroa, and to ask for, further advice. CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN. A letter was reeqived from tlie bo’-rd advising that the application for a susbidy towards the cost of conveying children from the Netherton-Awaiti-'Puke district had been! referred to the advisory inspector; for a report. After some discussion, during which it was pointed out that the board’s letter was dated March 23, it was resolved to write and again ask that the application be considered as early an possible:, in view of the approach of the winter months.
