THIRD ANNUAL MEETING. SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOWN. The third annual meeting of the Paeroa Orphans’ Chib was held at t!he Gaiety Theatre on Thursday might, the president (Bro. P. Williams) presiding over an attendance of 25 members. z ANNUAL REPORT.
The annual report was presented by tlie secretary, Bro.. R. S. Carden, as follows.: — “Finance. —The affairs, of the club are in a good financial position-, although the statemcnf, of receipts and expenditure shows a debit balance of £l's 19s 3d. Against this is an excess of, assets over liabilities amounting to £5B Is 3d. Copies of the balanceejheiet will be handled out a|t the meeting.
“The sum of £45 16s 4d, representing the final payment on the piaho, was, paid during the year, and as this liability has been extinguished the forthcoming year should show a surplus.
“Meetings.—-During the year seven sessions, were held, all of which proved highly successful. Programmes were provided by the Cambridge, Morr’nsville, and Auckland Orphans’ 'Clubs, and the thanks of all -members are due to them for the excellent programme provided. The visit.’ by the Auckland Orphans’ Club was again made on our Ladies’ Evening. A particular feature of this visit w'as the excellent items rendered by the orchestra, which Bro. Cater again conducted. To Bro.'Cater was presented a baton as a -mark of cur. appreciation.
“Visitors. —At our October session we had as our guests the members of the Paeroa Fire Brigade, who took I'he opportunity of presenting an enlarged photograph of the motor-,reel, the purchase of which was made possible by the efforts of certain members of the club.
“Thanks.—Your executive wishes to thank our president, Bro. P. Williams, for the splendid banner presented' by him to the club, and also Bro. P. Jaspers for the wooden case made by him for the banner,. We also wish to tender thanks, to the members for their heartv co-operatic.n aiid as.: assistance during the year. Tlici executive also wishes, to express the thanks of the club to the orchestra, to the members of -the kindred clubs who visited us, ito our. hon. auditor, and to the Pres,
“In conclusion, your executive desires to extend to you best wishes for a successful and enjoyable. 1928 sealson.”
In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president said 'he considered- that last season 1 had been a very satisfactory one, A tribute was due to the brethren for t|he support given to the executive, and als.o< for the manner in which the finances of the club had been assisted by the prompt payment of subscriptions. Thanks were also due to the various brethren who had held office, and to Bro. E. L. Shaw, who had provided the greenery for decorative purposes on the ladies’ night. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Tlie election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows :— Gurrlian, Bro. H. Poland'; president, Br.o. P. Williams ; vice-presi-dents, Bros. P. E. Brenan, 'F. E : , Flatt, A.-W. Allen; executive- committee, Bros. G. H. Taylor. C. P. Topliss.. W. E. Ward l , P. Jaspers, E. Edwards, c. T. Mettam, NEW -MEMBERS. Six new members were ..proposed aiiul duly elected, and two resignations were accepted. GENERAL. On the motion- of Bro. Steelman a hearty vote of thanks, was accorded the president, who was congratulated on t'he zeal and enthusiasm be had displayed in the interests of thq club. A similar tribute was extended to the secretary, and appreciative reference to liis work was axpressed by Bro. Brenan. On tlie motion of the president tlie -members’ thanks ami appre-eiat'on were accorded the treasurer and tha outgoing committee. Special tribute was paid to the Press by Bro. Carillon, who said that it had given generous, publicity to the sessions and had without d.'oubt greatly assisted membeyship. The question,--, of recognizing the services of the. honorary pianist, the appointmeint of a new pianist, and arrangements for the openihg night, were referred to the committee.
