BttENAN. MEMORIAL SHIELD. W. PURDIE’S TEAM WINS. The final game in the 1927-28 Brenan Memorial Shield competition w;as played- on the local rinks on Saturday afternoon. The teams were : J. C. H. McDonald, W. Ba/clay, L. Gibb, W. Purdie (skip), and C. Holes, F. G. Williams, G. P. de Castro, P. Williams (skip). The first-meiltioned team won by 25 points to 10. Considerable Interest was taken in the contest. Although no rain fell during bhe game,'the greqn was fairly heavy. Purdie’s team led. off with a 2, and in the next head added a single. His opponents then scored a and on the next head added rfree, T making the scores four to three on; the fourth head. The fifth and sixth heads went to Purdie for, two singles, and the seventh .head saw Williams’ team lying two up, the scores then besix to five. The following four heads went to Purdie’s team for eight, and on the twelfth head the scores were Purdie 13, Williams 7. From then onward Williams’ team scored four only, compared with Purdie’s score of 12, amd the game ended, purdie 25, WiH Hams 10. The winners were the recipients, ofc hearty congratulations on tlheir. meritorious performance.
