DISTRICT NEWS.

NGATEA. SCHOOL CONCERT. The pupils of the Ngatea District High School staged a very successful concert before a large audience in. the Ngate.a Hall on Thursday evening. A long and varied programme was. presented, and ill: was. well received, but ; time did not permit of recalls. The entertainmeint was organised .by the schoolteachers under the leadership of Miss Gray, with the purpose of raising funds, for the purchase of gramophone records, books of reference for the school library, and for general improvement purposes.

The programme was as follows : Nursery Rhymes, Infants ; recitation, “ Wander-itihurst,” Miss V. Bertel&eh ; country dance, “Sellinger’s Round,”

• tandards 3,4, 5. 6; piano solo, Miss Frances Johnson ; ballet dance. “Jack Frost,” Master W. Burke and Standards 3 artd 4 ; recitation, “Glory of the Garden,” Miss Joan. Rowlings; part song, “N.Z. Hymn,” Standards 5 and 6 ; song, “The'Old Orchard,” girls of Standards 1 and 1 2; recitation, “The Two Bears,” Masters G. Maktelow and W. Ncate; country dance, “S.weet Kate,” senior girls ; recitation, “Alexander Beetle,” Masses Louoih and Daly; country dance, “Norwegian Mountain March,” senior girl s; recitation, “ Will You Marry Me ?” Miss K. Barriball and Master P. Davidson ; song, “Strawberry Fair,” Standards '5 and 6 ; and the National Anthem. Miss. Gray- played the accompaniments. After the concert a dance was held, The music was provided’ by “Mayne’s Ngateans” -Orchestra, and Mr J. Neate was M.c. TURUA. A POPULAR DOCTOR. Dr. E. R. Lange, of Turua, who has sold his practice and intends to leave shortly for England to continue his studies, was honoured by the children of Turua at a farewell party in the Turua Buildings on Wednesday evening last. The function! was organised by Mesdames Jones, McKenzie, and Schofield, assisted by the staff of the school, and was very successful- About 150 children were present, and after tea had been served and items' rendered, games were played. Little Miss Joy McKenzie, on. behalf of the children,, presented the popular doctor with a set of military hair brushes. A complimentary farewell Social and l fiance will be tendered Dr. Lange by the pefoplc of, the Plains hi the Turua: Hall this evening.

Dr. Lange has sold his practice to Dr. T. Miller, ot Wellington Hosp'tal. son of Mr E. N. Miller, of Thames.
