TUBUA. CONCERT AND DANCE. On Thursday evening last the Netherton Musical Society and Merry Syncopators Orchestra gave a conceit and dance in the, hall. On account of the inclemency of the wea-i fclier the audience was not a large one, but what was lacking in numbers was more than compensated for in the enthusiastic appreciation shown by the audience, a.nd one all spent a most enjoyable evening. Mr. Chas. Potter, of Nethertoir, presided, and in . a few welHchosen words introduced the members of the society, anjij' pointed out thint all services were given gratuitou.’ly,, and explained that the surplus funds, above expanses, would be donated to charitable purposes by the society. The choir, which is well balanced 1 , gave a very fine rcindering of a choral fantasia on thq opera “Faust,” ar-/ ranged by Dr. F. A. Challinor. The solos were taken by Mrs and MisS ( Adam and Messrs Wakeham and: Godden. Other items were as follows: “Just a Song at Twilight,” Miss Adam and choh"; Tosti’s “Good-bye,” Mrs Adam / monologue, “A legend of Norfolk,” Mrs Scudamore ; quartettes, “Ye Ranks and Braes.” and “O Hush Thee My Baby,” Mrs and Mi'ss Adam, Messrs Wakeham and. Godden ; “Come Sing to Me,” Mr W. Morrison; Tosti’s “Parted,” Misjsi M. Adam ; “When the Great Red Dawn is. Shining,” MIT 4 and Miss Adam; “The Holy Friar,” Mr Wakeham. Humorously topical songs were “How dlo you do” and “Smile a litle bit,” Miss M. Adam and Mr; J. W. Welch; “Said Aaron to Moses” and “His day’s work was done,” Mr T. W. Welch ; “Riley’s Cowshed,” Air J- W. Welcih. The programme concluded with a farcical sketch entitled 1 “My Wife’s Baby,” given by Mrs Scuda-, more, Miss M. Adam, and Messrs Adam and T. W. Welch. Miss M. Adam is a versatile singer with the promise of a great future in the musical world, anjd the audience was quick to realise this and. showed keen appreciation of the way in which both classical and humorous items were rendered by her. After a couple, of houis’ dancing, the music being providted by the Merry Syncopators’ Grchestia, a moist enjoyable evening’s entertainment was brought to a conclusion, by the. singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and The National Anthem.* KEREPEEHI.
