PERSONAL.

Mr 1. D. Jones, who has been draughtsman in the office of the Lands Drainage Department at Kerepeehi foi the last ten years, was farewelled by the staff on Tuesday afternoon prior to leaving for the Auckland office of the department. The land? drainage engineer, Mr E'. Tayllor, in making a presentation of a roll of notes, Congratulated Mr joufeis on his well-earned promotion ajnd expressed the regret of himself and t'he whole of the .staff that this necessitated; his departure from Kerepeehi.

M*r Olive Drummond, of Wellington, has been transferred to Paeroa and took up 'his duties as supervisor at the local post office this

piorning. Commenting on the transfer of Mr Drummond, who is a wireless broadcast expert, the N.Z. Radio Record, Wellington., in this week’s issue, states: “Wellington station 2YA is losing the services of Mr Clive Dr.urni mond as an announcer and as Uncle Jasper. This news will be received with regret by thousands of listenersin, grown,-up and children, alike. Mr Drummond, w'ho is a member of the Civil Service, has received notice of his transfer, on promotion, to Paeroa. He wi'H be a considerable) loss to radio in New Zealand. Mr Drummond was the announcer at old 2YK, the make-shift station which carried onl in Wellington, prior to the opening of 2YA, and he did the announcing to the exceeding satisfaction of all listeners. To him was entrusted the announcing of the opening night of 2YA, the most important radio event in New Zealand. It was the Broadcasting Company’s way of paying a trjbute to Mr Drummond for his past services, and an acknowledgment of his ability. Since then Mr Drummond has been heard .frequently announcing at 2YA, another special, bccalsion befng that of the Maori Radio Pageaint. After the opening of 2YA Mr Drummond ‘broke out’ in a new place. He became an uncle, and as Uncle Jasper, with Spot, his d°F> 'he was soon a prime favourite .with all children. I;n Paoroa a listening-in set will bet a very poor, substitute for a broadcasting station to Mr Drumlmond, who has always been a radio 'enthusiasts at the transmitting end.”
