HOCKEY.

LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES. PAEROA DEFEATS TE AROHA. The Paeroa Ladies’ Hockey Club opened its 1928 season with a decisive victory of four goals to nil against the Te Aroha ladies’ club at the local domain on Saturday afternoon. The local eleven combined extraordinarily well, considering it was the first game of the season and there were several new players in the ranks. The captain, Miss V. Shand, struck form; right away, and: in. addition to using hei team to good advantage, was responsible for scoring three out of the foul! goals, the final one being netted by Mrs A. Vuglar.

The local club can field a fairly strong team this year, and with coaching and practice it should.! ptovc a hard proposition for any team to beat. The Te Aroha team contained several gills who were playing their first match, and as a consequence the side was not a very strong one, although the forwards attacked freely but lacked combination and relied too much on individual effort. Mr L. Mahon was referee.
