Building permits to erect two garages and a, washjho.usc were granted at last night’s meeting of the. Paeroa Borough Council. During the year ended March 31 thei total value of permits granted was £12,58?, compared with £82,399 for the previous year. - '
,A satisfactory shooting season is anticipated by Hauraki Plains sportsmen who have visited the upper reaches of the Piako River to peg out their claims. It is thought that ducks will be plentiful owing to the absence of water in other districts. ,
A brief sitting of thq local Court was held, this morning, Messrs F. E. Flatt and G. P. Lamb, J’s.P., presiding. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in. the Miaowing cases: AV. M. Soiensen y. A. L. Benner, £7, costs £1 10s 6d; W- Fleming and Son. Ltd., v. J. P. K. Callaghan, £2, costs £1 10s 6d ; same v. S. A. Liggins, £l4 i)s lOd, costs £2 4s ; same v. H. Jowsey, £7 12s 9d, costs £2 4s 6d.
In dealing with the report of the .-swimming baths committee at the Paeroa Borough Council meeting last night the Mayor (Mr'W- Marshall) became rather heated over the exact . wording of a resolution. After a ■lengthy discussion the point at issue was satisfactorily settled, and Or. F. E. Flatt remarked that the bath should be a pretty good one. “Yes,” retorted Cr. J. W. Silcock, “and enough has been said to make them tepid.”
The annual general mejet ng of the Ohinemiiri Accjimatiwation Society is to be held to-morrow night. As the question of opening certain sanctuaries and other impoi taut matters will be discussed a full attendance, .of members and others interested is requested. The Finance Committee reported at last night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council that the revenue received in the district fund account amounted to £2231 2s Id, including £650 5s 8d transferred from loan accounts. The expenditure amouiited to £1261 IDs 7d, including £350 transferred to loan accounts. Mr T. C. Arnold., buyer for Messrs. Thos. - Borthwick and Sons, notifies that owing to the interruption of thq railway service on Wednesday next (Awzae Day) he will not be receiving any pigs during next week.*
In connection with, the Wa’hou River stop-bank’ng near Carter’s corner, where the road will eventually be On the stop-bank, the Public Works Department is now removing portion of the Turua Road outlet culvert. The scheme provides for a culvert under the Turua road a few chains north of the corner and a new culvert under Captain Cook Road. These culverts will be of specially strengthened pipes, and the alteration in the, drains is be*ng madej to provide bigger and stronger pipes in the culverts and to remove the danger of the drain inside tile corner.
