PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union was hqld at Mr W. Bain’s rooms on Monday night, the chairman (Mr WP. Pennell.) presiding over the Rev. Father J. T. Taylor, Messrs M. Crosby, J. Pinder, E. Edwards, H. Tamp, and the secretary (Mr D. S. Kerr). APPOINTMENT OF DELEGATE. The Pirates club wrote advising that Mr E. A. S. Maxwell had been relieved of his duties as a delegate owing to his intention, to be an active, player during the season. The club advised that Mr E l . (Ted.) Edwards had been appointed in his stead. A cordial welcome was extended to Mr Edwards by the chairman, who expressed the hope that he would find the work interesting and that the committee would receive his hearty co-.opera,t ! on in furthering the interests of Rugby football. The East club wrote advising that Messrs C. H. Vincent and G. S. Taiboys had been appointed delegates to the union. PERCENTAGE OF GATE TAKINGS. The Thames Valley Rugby Union wrote advising that it had been decded to make a levy of ten per cent, on the gross gate-takings of subunion competit'on games. The object of the levy was to provide a fund for sending a. representative team on tour next season if funds permitted, The chairman explained the discussion that had taken place at the Thames Valley Union’s meeting, and stated that he approved of the levy and the amount decided upon. During the 1925 season a. levy of 20 per cent, had been made. The letter wag received. INTER-UNION MATCHES. A letter was received from the Thames Valley Union advising that at its annual meeting it had been decided that the seniors play two rounds for the Frank Poland Memorial Cup and the juniors one round for the Sharebrokers’ Cup this reason. The information met with the general approval of the meeting. SELECTOR FOR UNION. The chairman said it would be necessary to appoint a selector to act for the Thames Valley Rugby Union, and he had pleasure in proposing Mr Edwin Edwards Mr Edwards was duly elected. TIME OF STARTING GAMES. The chairman introduced the question of teams taking thq field at the scheduled time. Last year the delays were veiy noticeable, and he considered that a definite stand would have to be. taken tli’s season. The practice of teams being late was not to be tolerated, and the public were also ehr titled to .some consideration. Mr Pinder considered that . the senior teams were the, worst offenders last season.

After a brief discussion the; chairman moved that any senior team taking the field after 3 p.m. be fined the sum of 10s for each' offence, such fine to be paid' before) the fallowing Saturday ; in default, the offending team be; suspended until such time as the fine was paid. Seconded by Father Taylor and carried unanimously.

GIFT OF CUP. On the motion of the chairman' it was resolved to thank Mr F. G. Williams for his offer to present a cup for a junior knock-out round competition, and to forward him a complimentary ticket for the season. THIRD-GRADE WEIGHT. T,he. question of increasing the weight of third-grade players was’introduced by the secretary. After some discussion, it was decided to amend the rule so as to provide. that no player other than a bona fide schoolboy playing for his school should take part whose weight at the commencement of the season exceeded lOsti; provide! that no playqr whose weight at the commencement of the season did not exeqed 10st should continue to take pari in such competition if h's weight so increased during the season as to exceed lost 4Hb. The resolution was moved by the secretary and seconded by Father Taylor, and it wag decided to make immediate application to the Thames Valley Union for its approval of the amendment to the rule. MATCH WITH THAMES. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to ask the Thameg Rugby Union to send a representative team to pll;ay Paeroa on l a date to be arranged, the return match to be in the form of a challenge for the Birch Cup. REFEREES’ REPORTS. .The matter of referees’ reports was mentioned by Mr Pinder, who contended that last season the union 'had been very lax about obtaining them. He thought the referees would be willing to co-operatei with the union, and it was desirable that the committee should be apprised officially of the result of competition games. The secretary said that hq had a supply’ of official forms, and he would undertake to issue them to the referees. The chairman pointed out that rule 29 provided for the use. and return of the form by the refere.es. TRANSFER OF PLAYERS. A request was received from the Waihi union stating that there were several players from the Paeroa union’s territory who were at present working in a battery at Waikino. As the men did hot. finish work until 2 p.m. on Saturdays it was not possible for them to get to Paeroa ini time to take part in competition games. It was desired, therefore, that they be granted a transfer to thev Waihi union and allowed to play for the Waikino club. Mr Pinder said that a similar application had been made last season. In his opinion the players concerned were only trying to “beat the Paeroa union.” He was stronlgly opposed to th e transfer being grantejd, and considered that if the players concerned were sincere they could reach Paeroa in time.

On the, motion of Mr Crosby, seconded by Father Taylor, it was decided to stand by the rules and decline the application. OFFICIALS’ BADGES. On the motion of the chairman it was decided to procure sufficient silver badges for the members of the mah,agemeint committee. He contended that officials should wear their badges at all matches, and return them to the secretary at the conclusion of the season. In seconding, Mr Pinder said that the public was entitled to know who the officials of the union were, as their sejrv/ces were often required. POST OFFICE BOX. In. moving that the union engage a post office letter-box, Mr H. Tams said that it would enable the secretary to obtain correspondence more expeditiously, and would obviate confusion. The resolution was carried. PASSES FOR PLAYERS. After some discussion it was decided to issue to the captain of each team 20 passes for players each Saturday, and that players, unless in possession of a pass from their captain, be charged admission. ADMISSION CHARGES. It was resolved that the charges for admission this season to all matches under the union’s jurisdiction, be is for men and 6d for ladies. ADVERTISING. It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, to renew the advertising contract with the Hauraki Plains Gazette as from April 18. OFFICIALS APPOINTED. The following officials were appointed:— Selectors: Senior’, Mr W. White ; junior, Mr H. Robinson ; third grade, Mr G. Sale. First-aid official: Mr Walter Smith. Time-keepers: Seniors, Mr H. E. Butler ; juniors, Mr E. V. S'lyfield. Gate-keepers: Messrs B. Sheriff, C. Farrow, and F. J. Williams. DRAW FOR SATURDAY. The following draw was arranged for Saturday next Sen'ors.—East v. Wept, at Paeroa; Pirates v. Suburbs, at Hikutaia. Juniors.—West v. Suburbs, at Paeroa ; East a bye. Third-grade.—East v. West, at Vacroa. GENERAL. It was decided to purchase a table for the use of the Press. Mr C. H. Arnold was appointed grounds caretaker for the season. The chairman reported on the decayed condition of several of th'e goalposts, and his actioii in procuring new ones was approved. The adoption of rides as confirmed by the union at a. general meeting held on May 17, 1927, and approved of by t,he Thames Valley Rugby Football Union on May 31, 1927, was approved, and arrangements for printing were left in the hands of the chairman. The acceptance of the office of vicepresident by Mr O. G, Thornton was confirmed, and his donation of £1 Is was acknowledged with thanks.

HAURAKI PLAIN® RUGBY.

MEETING OF UNION.

The Hauraki Plains Rugby Unicfn met at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr H. Dent presiding over Messrs C. A. Hayward and A. H. McClean, Waitakaruru ; W. Madgwick and W. Taylor, Turua ; E. L. Walton, Hauraki Plains West; R. C. Abel, Ngatea ; F. Mulgrew aind E. Clay, Kerepeehi; J. Reed, Referees’ Association ; and W. P. Wylde (secretary). BOUNDARIES. Mr Clay reported that the Kerer peehi club cou'ld enter two teams if the boundaies of the club were not altered. It expected to be able to play K: Fox, F. Hamilton, and R. Hutchinson. After much discussion an agreement was reached by fixing the boundary betwetn the two clubs at Hamilton’s Road, and thence to the eastern boundary of Mr R. L. Davis’ farm. THE WEST CLUB. Mr Walton explained that he had been asked to represent the West club, which could l enter one senior team. It desired to travel at the beginning of the season, when it was likely that the roads would be passable. It desired the assistance of the; union in procuring a launch when necessary, and asked that the union subsidise the cost. The club desired to point out the difficulty it experienced in getting a launch, ant] for this reason it was asking for help in getting into touch with a launchowner. In the. past the failure to secure a launch had been one of the primary causes of the West club’s inability to return matches. It was decided to ajssist ,the West club by arranging for it to travel to the first three matches, and to help it to secure a launch when required. DRAW FOR THE SEASON. The draw for the senior competition results as follows :— April 21.—Turua at Ngatea, West at Waitakaruru, Kerepeehi a bye. Second Day.—Turua at Kqrepeehi, West at Ngatea, Waitakaruru a bye. Third Day.—Kerepeehi at Ngatea, Waitakaruru at Turua, West a bye. Fourth Day.—Waitakaruru at Kerepeehi, West at Turua, Ngatea a bye. Fifth Day.—Kerepeehi at West. Ngatea at Waitakaruru, Turua a bye. The second round will be ip the samq order but the other team will travel. Tlie draw for the juniors will be the same, but as the Wept cfl.ub has no junior team there .will ;a bye' for bhe junior team shown to have drawn it. This arrangement was accepted to permit the two 'teams of a club travelling together to all other matches. THIRD-GRADE COMPETITION. The formation of third-gradtei teams was advocated by Mr Dent, who pointed out the necessity of encouraging

the boys who in a year or two would qualify for positions in the junior grade teams. The suggestion was supported, and it was decided to organise a competition between teams from the NgatcaWaitakaruru district and the TuiuaKerepeehi district. The weight limit was fixed at Bst 71b, rising to 9st limit, but any boy under 16 years of age could, play Mr J. Gribble, of Ngatea, would be asked to organise the NgatearWaitakaruru section, and the Turua. club w" secure the services of an organiser for its district. AFFILIATION FEE. The annual affiliation fee and levy on clubs was fixed at £3, a reduction of £1 on the previous year’s amount. COMMITTEES. >4 Messrs H. Dent, E. A. Mahoney, and A. H. McClean were appointed a committee to administer the insurance scheme, and Messrs H. Dent, F. Rogers, W. Madgwick, D. Molesworth, and J- Christie were appointed the wet weather committee. SEASON TICKETS. The practice of appointing numerous vice-presidents with the idea of enticing donations to the union’s funds was abolished in favour of the idea of selling season tickets at 10s 6d, the bearer to be entitled to admission to all representative matches. VICE-PRESIDENTS. For the purpose of having someone to preside at meetings in the absence of the president Messrs W. Madgwick, F. Rogers, A. H. N. Wallace, and C. S. Foster were appointed vicepresidents.
