WHARF COLLAPSES.

OVERLOADED WITH MANURE. MISHAP AT KOPUARAHI. The Kopuaraihi wharf collapsed under the weight of 3.1 tons of manure and cement stacked on it from the Auckland steamer on Friday last. The structure is now useless, and the cheese from the Shelly Beach factory has to be shipped from Ngatea.

Shortly after the steamer had departed the two 12iji by 4in> stringers broke and the 480' bags of manure fell into t'he mud. Strenuous efforts were made to rescue it before the tide came right in, and 180 bags, many of them wet, were lifted and carted away before the work was stopped by the rising tide.

The Kopuarahi wharf is one of the wharves now under offer to the Hauraki. Plains County Council by the Lands Drainage Department.
