BOWLER SHIELD COMPETITION.
PAEROzX DRAWS WITH TE AROHA. Ideal weather prevailed locally on Saturday afternoon, when the Te Aroha eleven (challengers) played a Paeroa team (holders) for the, Bowler Shield. The visitors batted first, and innings produced 149 runp, the main sconens being James (60), Hardman (35), Boyd (17), and Macbeth (15). Paeroa replied with 90 for four wickets, when the innings was declared, and the, game resulted in a draw. Of those who batted for Paeroa G. Sale was the star, and his visit to the crease produced a not-out inn-jj ings of 61 runs. Sale played very fine shots and gave a good exhibition of all-round batt’ng. His score included two 6’s and seven 4’s. J. Verran was the only other player to reach double figures, and his total was 10 when he was caught by James off Turner. , The drawn game on Saturday still entitles Paeroa to hold the shields and the next game for the trophy will be played at the local domain on April 14. when the Gordon team’s challenge will be decided. A representative match was played between Paeroa and Wai hi at the Waihi Domain op Saturday, Paeroa winnng by one wicket and 17 runs.
L. Arnold, the Paeroa. captain, won the toss and put Waihi in, The Waihi team was dismissed for 55 runs, Staee was top scorer for Waihi with 27, his wicket falling to a “yorkci” from Arnold. When Waihi’s second wicket fell the score was 49, when L. Arnold and L. Shand went on and Arnold ; took five wickets in one over. He took seven, wickets, for 7 runs altogether. Shand took two w'ckets for > 3 runs. The bowling of Shand ami Arnold was unplayable. The of Paeroa was also exceptionally good, Hardman, at mid-on being a wonder. Paeroa’s score was 72 for nine wickets. There were only throe wickets down when Waihi’s total was passed. The rest of the batsmen then took chances, as time was close. Williams, Smith, ,Edwards, and. Curtis ■ were the main scorers for Paeroa. Hughes (Waihi) took five tyickerts for 9 runs. Hauraki Palins cricketers had a decisive victory against the Waihi Asso-7 ciation’s representatives at Wtiihi on Saturday. They scoretd 98 runs in the first innings and dismissed their opponents for 24; Waihi declined to follow on, preferring the bowll’ng and j fielding, and Plains knocked up a fur- * ther 120 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
