GIRL’S ARM FRACTURED.
ACCIDENT IN THE BUSH. GOOD WORK BY GIRL GUIDES. A painful accident befell Alison, eldest daughter of Mr W. Barclay, Wood Street, Paeroa, on Saturday afternoon. A party of local Girl Guides and friends tramped to the bush for a pien’e, and an enjoyable time was being spent when, in swinging on a rata vine Alison Barclay lost her hold and tell heavily on her arm and shoulder. As a result of the fmil .her left forearm was fractured and the wrist ffislocated.
Splendid work was done by the Girl .Guides, some of whom 'had received training in first-aid to the injured. The knowledge acquired was put to good pee, and tlie bii;oken limb was attended to by the girls. Inprovisc.d bandages were procured, and a wet compress was applied and the broken arm skilfully bound. The little sufferer, 1 was then taken to her home by the party, and on surgical assistance being summoned 1 it was found necessary to administer an anaesthetic before the injured limb could be attended to.
Dr. G. T. Smith, who attended the case, expressed his commendation at the prompt measures rendered by thei guides, and paid a tribute to the way the injured girl bore the pain.
