EAST COAST RAILWAY.
O OPENING OF TAURANGA SECTION. TRAINS WELL PATRONISED. A large number of Paeroa people made the journey to Taujranga to-day, tile occasion being the official opening of the Waihi-Tauranga section of the East Coast main trunk railway line, the first sod of which was turned by Sir Joseph Ward at Waihi just sixteen yetars ago. The special 1 - trains for Tauranga. both from Frankton and Waihi, were well patronised. The Frankton special of 12 cars was taxed to its limit and conveyed 600-odd pafssenge.rs, 110 tickets beiing issued from Paeroa, while over 10'0 came from the Thames line and a further 100 joined at Waihi. This train, was in addition to the Waihi spec’al, which had over 1600 on board and had to pick up passengers on route.
The special train conveying the Prime Minister and party joined the Frankton special at Waihi. In all, it is estimated that the specials carried over 2300' passenger® to Tauranga.
