SWIMMING SPORTS.
NGATEA CLUB'S GALA. Tile Ngatea Swimming Club held very successful sports in the Piako River on Saturday afternoon, there being a large attendance of spectators and keen competition in most of tlie events. Most of the swimmers were members of the club, and many had only learned to swim since the facilities were provided a few months ago. There was a fairly strong current running, so that except in. the 25yds races, which >vere from a punt to the landing stage, the actual distance travelled, in crossing the river wife more than 50yds. Following are the results :—
Novice race, 25yds: Miss Maud Mc i Clean (7secs), 1; Mis® Isabel McKerchar (ssecs), 2. Time, 30secs. Fifteen starters. _
Bacltfsstrbke race, 50yds : S. McKercliar (ssecs), 1, and only one to finish, as all the others were carried by the current away from the winning post. Time, train. ssecs. Eighteen starters. Girls’ race, 50yds: K. McKerchar (scr), 1 ; p. Norco.tt (Ssecs), 2. Time, 52secis. Three starters.
Boys’ race, 50yds : E. Currie (Isec), 1 ; P. Foster (9sees), 2. Time, 50secs. Four starters. \
Men’s race, 50yds : J. Edwards (l 6 secs), 1 ; ,S. McKerchar (ssecs), 2. Times, 27,secs. Twenty starters. Ladies’ race, 50yds : K. McKerchar (llsecs), 1 ; Mrs Williamson (llsecs), 2. Time, 52secs. Three htartnrs. Ladies’ race, 100yds : K. McKerchar (scr), 1; Mrs Williamson (20sec(s), 2Time, 2min. Bsecs. Two starters. Men’s race, 100'yds: S. McKerchar (7secs), 1 ; A. Dallig (scr), 2. Time, Imin. 19secs. Eleven starters.
Dressed race :P. Foster, 1; Miss P. Norcott, 2. These were‘the only ones to finish without losing part of their clothing.
Dual Relay race, 50yds each : Miss J. Rountree and W. Trevelyn, 1 ; Miss J. Watts and J. Shaw, 2. 'S>x starters.
Medley race, 25ydB each breaststroke, back stroke, and any stroke : S. McKerchar (4secs), 1 ; W. Beck (17secs), 2. Time, train. 22secs. Eight starters.
Neat Diving: Miss. J. Rountree, 1;• J. Edwards, 2; Miss F. Norcott, 3Fifteen entries.
