• MATCHES ON PLAINS. WAITAKARURU WINS SHIELD. TURUA’S POOR SHOWING. The ’Waitakaruru Cricket Club won the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s inter-club competition for the 1927-28 season by beating the Turua team in a two days’ play-off match by an innings and 30 runs. In the first day’s innings. Turua made 34 and Waitakaruru 106, and on Saturday last the second innings was played, but as Turua only secured 42 runs there was no need for the Waitakaruru team to go to the wickets. Instead a scratch match between the two teams was played, and Turua had the satisfaction of securing 93 runs and dismissing the home team for 59. The Paeroa Primary School team defeated the Karangahake . school team on Wednesday, in a return match played at Karangahake. The home side batted first, ajxd were dismissed for 43 runs, Smith carrying his bat for 15. Arnold bowled well for Paeroa, taking five wickets for 12 runs. Paeroa’s innings resulted in 128 runs for five wickets. M. Curtis batted for an hour and a?half, and, gave a good display for his 43 not out. Hincheo, who also carried his bat, did some hard l hitting, five 4 ? s and one 6 being included in his score of 29. E’djwards played well for 23, Arnold re- i tifed at 13, and Shand .was run out after compiling 9. Karangalhake bowled well, but tired towards the end. Williams, with two wickets for 11 runs, was the most successful.
