HOCKEY.
HAURAKI PLAINS ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The Hauraki Plains Ladies Hoekey Association held its first annual meeting at Ngatea on Tuesday evening. Delegates present were Messrs C. W. Harris and H. L. Berney (Waitakaruru), J. Miller and H. Kerby (Kopuarahi), H. Kirkman, (Ngatea), M. Canning and R. C. Abel (Ngatea School) .honorary secretary.
The annual report reviewed at length the past season’s operations, and mentioned that considering the infancy of the game in the district a .high standard was attained. The inter-club competition shield presented by Mr J. H. Nicholson was won by the’Waitakaruru Club, with the Kopuaralhi A team runners-up. Valuable experience had been gained by the representative team which took part in the Country Week tournamenHs in Auckland and in the matches against the Auckland teams at Ngatea and. the Thames team at Thames.
The outgoing committee suggested the following points for consideration : The drawing-up of a proper constitution, the coaching of the representative teams-, the improvement of playing fields, and a better metho I of recording t'he matches. Dealing with the coming season, the report stated that the prospects were just as bright as they were last year, with the additional advantage that there was last season’s experience to profit by. The “’statement of receipts and expenditure showed receipts totalling £3d 13s'7d and expenditure £3 13s Bd, including over £26 in connection with the representative team’s matches. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the retiring secretary, Mi- R. c. Abel, was thanked for his work.
The retiring officers were thanked by resolution,' and the following were appointed for the new season: President, Mr C. W. Harris; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. H. Nicholson, D. J. O’Carroll, and H. L. Berney ; secretary, Mr M. Canning; delegate to Auckland Association, Mrs Joughin,; wet weather committee, Messrs J. Miller, H. L. Berney, J. H. Nicholson, and the secretary ; referees appointment committee, Messrs M. Canning and J. Miller; selectors, Messrs C. W. Harris, E. Campbell and G. L. Griffiths. ' • DRAW FOR SEASON. The inter-club competition matches will commence oh Saturday, April 14', the draw being as follows First Day.—Kopuurahi A v. Ngatea, Ngatea School v. Kopuarahi B, Waitakaruru v. Kerepeehi, Turua a bye. Second Day.—Ngatea School v. Kopuarahi A, Ngatea v. Waitakaruru, Kopuarahi B v. Turua, Kerepeehj a bye. Third Day.—Kopuarahi A v. Kopuarahi B, Turua v. Ngatea School, Kerepeehi v. Ngatea, Waitakaruru a bye. Fourth Day.—Waitakaruru v. Kopuarahi A, Ngatea v. Turua, Kopuar rahi B y. Kerepeehi, Ngatea School a bye. '■ Fifth Day.—Kopuarahi A v. .Kerepeehi, Turua v. Waitakaruru, Ngatea School v. Ngatea, Kopuarahi B a bye. Sixth Day—Turua v. Kopuarahi A, Kopuarahi B v. Waitakaruru, Kerepeehi v. Ngatea School, Ngatea a bye. Seventh Day.—Ngatea v. Kopuarahi B, Kerepeehi v. Turua, Waitakaruru v. Ngatea School, Kopuarahi A a bye.
In the first round the first-mention-ed team will travel, and in tihe second round the first-meAtioned team will play at home. The secretary was instructed, to comnumicate with all referees on last year’s list with a view to ascertaining whether/their services will be available whenever required.
