MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday night, Mr J. H. C. McDonald presiding over Messrs C. , H. Pascoe, J. W. Silcock, C. T. Mettam, W. Purdie, W. L. Lawrence (secretary), and G. H. Taylor (headmasterj. REPAIRS TO PLAYGROUND. A letter was received from the Education Board advising that it was prepared to grant a £ for £ subsidy on moneys raised locally for the bituminising of the boys.’ lower playground. * Several members expressed satisfaction with the board’s action, and the chairman stated that he had interviewed the Mayor on the mattei and was hopeful of receiving the as- • sistance of the Borough Council in carrying out the work. The matter of arranging for the w.ork to be carried out was left in the hands of Mr McDonald and the headmaster, with power to act. EXEMPTION OF PUPIL.

Foillowing on inquiries made ami supported by the certificate of a local doctor, exemption from attendance at school was granted to a pupil in the. primary department. SCHOOL PICNIC. The headmaster reported pn the result of the annual school pien'e held at Te Aroha on February 24, when the outing was marred by heavy rain. It was resolved to write and express thanks and appreciation to the Te Aroha Borough Council for placing the Herries Memorial Park at the disposal of the children, and for several favours received. SWEETS FOR CHILDREN. ' A circular was received from the director of the Division of Dental Hygiene deprecating the action of committees in. providing sweets and sweet cakes for children at breakingup ceremonies and school picnics. The letter was referred to the headmaster tor future reference. PROBATIONARY TEACHERS. iv Alletter was received from the Edu- - / cation Board relative to the misconception that existed as t.o the position of probationers and. their attachment to Schools. In answer to Mr Silcock the headmaster said that Paeroa, had tour probationers. at present, which went to show that they were well qualified for the positions or they would not have been appointed. • THE A. M. SAMUEL CUP. The Paeroa Athletic Club wrote advising that the primary school relay team .had complied.with the conditions attached to the A. M. Samuel Cup, and by winning it two eyars in Succession the trophy now became the property of the school. The club ex- ’ tended, congratulations to the team and also to the teaching staff. VISIT OF MINISTER. . In connection with, the visit of the ’ . Minister of Education (the Hon. R. A. Wright) to Paeroa on Tuesday next, arrangements for the reception of the party were left in the hands; of . the chairman, secretary, and 'headmaster.

It was decided to remind the Minister that in the event of the department erecting any. more technical high schools, the claims of Pae ,- oa would not be overlooked. Also to point out that some years ago Paeroa had been placed fourth on the list for the Dominion to receive a technical high school, and that the department had purchased a section of; land for the purpose. COMMERCIAL CLASSES. It reported that Miss O. S. had been appointed instructress for the book-keeping and typewriting classes. • ' It was decided to renew the application to the board tor a grant, towards putting six typewriters into good working order. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £2B 7s 8d on the school fund account were passed for payment.
