TENNIS.
TOURNAMENTS ON PLAINS.
SLOW PROGRESS. Very slow progress is being made with the Hauraki Plains Tennis Assoc ation’s annual tournaments owing to lack of interest by players, and very few games were played at Ngat'ea on Saturday on account of the absence of certain competitors. It was expected that the competitions would have been, concluded, and as there are insufficient games to warrant another meeting at Ngatea and big at-tractions-elsewhere on the next two. Saturdays the games will have to be played hy mutual arrangement «'r defaulted.
Details of Saturday’s games are as follows:—
THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Men’s Singles.—V. O’Connor beat L. Squires, 6 —l, 6 —4. Stuni-fiiijil.: V. O’Connor won by default from D. G. McMillan ; S. Coppins beat W. E. Murphy, 7—5, 6—3. Men’s Doubles.—Final : Coppins and Coppins won by default from Murphy and McMillan. Ladies’ Singles.—Semi-final: Mrs' Bertedsen beat Mrs Bird, 6—4, 6 —4. Final: Miss Duffy beat 'Mrs Bertclsen, *6—l, 6 —l. THE HANDICAPS. Men’s singles.—Third round : SHarris won by default from F. Olsen ; W. E. Murphy (owe 25) beat C. N. O’Loughlin (owe 2), 70 —45 ; M. O’Connor (owe 15) beat J. Duffy (scr), 70—54. Semi-finail: M. O’Connor (owe 15) beat El Smart (owe 2), ’70—52.
Men’s Doubles. —Semi-final: McKay and Candy (owe 10) beat Griffiths and Otter (owe 20), 70 —55 ; Morgan and Paton (owe 8) beat O’Connor and O’Connor (owe 10), 70 —60. Final: Morgan, and Paton won by default from McKay and Candy.
Ladies’ Singles.—Miss B. Duffy (5) beat Mrs O’Loughlin. (owe 8), 50—47. Semi-final: Miss Clotworthy (owe 5) beat Mrs Clotworthy (owe 12), SO 1 — .48. ' Ladies’ Doubles.—semi-final: Misses Duffy (owe 10) beat Mrs O’Lough- • lin and Miss Rogers (owe 7), 50—25. Final: Mrs and Miss Clotworthy (owe, 20), beat Misses Duffy (owe 10’), 52 — 50. Mixed Dotibles.—W. - Murphy and Miss Duffy (owe 25) beat Smart and Miss Rogers (owe 6), 50—35 ; Paton, and M’ss Beaver (owe 6) beat V. O’Connor and Miss Benny (owe 8), 50' —48 ; O’Loughilin and Mrs O’Loughlin (owe 10) beat’O’’ Connor and Mrs Bird (owe 12), 50—34. Semi-final: O’Loughlin and Mrs O’Loughlin (owe 10) beat Paton and Miss Beaver (owe 6), 50—40.
