HAURAKI PLAINS' PROGRESS.

REPORTS SUBMITTED.

The following reports were received, by the Hauraki Plains County Council at its monthly meeting yesterday:

ENGINEER’S REPORT.

The county engineerMr F. Basham, reported as follows :— “Kaihere-Torehape Loan.— Good progress has been made with, gravelling, about one-half being completed. “Pekapeka Road. —Work on this road is completed.

“Moehau Road. —Metalling bn this road is completed, but not yet rolled.

“lOld Main Road.—The road has been scarified i where necessary and rolled in readiness to receive red metal. Delivery should be started this week.

-“Main Highways.—The grader has been constantly employed! on main highways during the me nth. Roads generality have benefited by recent rainsi I should like to. know what maintenance metal to procure, as the plant will be idle as soon as the Old Main Road, Netherton- is completed. , “Plant.—The two trucks are now over three years old, and' are „fast approaching the point beyond which it is not economical to work them.The Chevrolet truck in particular is really past maintenance.”

In reply to Cr. Reid the engineer stated that some fine red metal was to be supplied for parts of Pekapeka Road,

The engineer stated that there was three or four weeks’, work on Netherton Old Road.

The matter of procuring maintenance metal was left to the Works Committee, with power to act. Regarding the plant, the chairman advocated making provision in next year’s estimates.

The engineer, urged purchasing -a medium-weight English truck. The matter was, referred to the Works Committee for a report. TREASURER’S REPORT.

The treasurer, Mr E. A. Mahoney, reported as follows: —

“Rate Collections. —Rates for the currant year are now coming to hand more freely. Since March 1 over £lOOO has been paid. . .

“Ferries. —Pipiroa Ferry receipts for the' period commencing April 1 to date balance tne expenditure on the ferry, with a month’s receipts sW to c«me.

“Komata North Ferry receipts for the same period exceed maintenance costs by £75,' but there was an additional expenditure of' £225 on the house. This ferry has also a month’s receipts to come to hand.

“Plant. —Roller hire receipts exceed maintenance charges by £l9B. trucks by £72, but tractors and graders have cost £9l more than has been returned by -hire charges. “Tile receipts for the month: totalled £2709 19s 2JI, being £1366 15s lOd fr°m rates and £134'3 3s 4d from miscellaneous, including £75 17s 'sd from Komata ferry and £6B 4s 3d from the Pipiroa ferry.”
