ACCESS TO MINE.
MARATOTO-WAITEKAURI ROAD.
The Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines Co. wrote pointing out to the Ohinemuri County Council that the Maratoto-Waitekauri road, .which had been recently widened to the mines, would be impassable after a few hours’, rain if the metalling was delayed. There was likely to be considerable traffic over the road during the coming winter, and the company was anxious, in the interests of all concerned, that advantage be taken of the. fine weather to avoid, deterioration when the winter months arrived. The full length of the road from Hikutaia to Mcßrinn’s Creek had received very little attention during the past four years. The Chairman : There you are, Cr. Morrison, there’s, something for you.
Cr. Morrison said that he had not visited the road for some time. He understood that there was no immediate prospect of crushing operations being undertaken. The position was explained by the engineer, who said that £2OO had been expended on widening and improving a portion of the road recently.' The foundation of the' road, although rough, was solid, and there was small chance l of vehicles becoming stuck. Further work would be carried out this month.
In view of the suggestion by the chairman that the road appeared to be such that further assistance might be obtained from the Mines Department, the matter was referred to Crs. Morrison and Robinson and the engineer.
