DANGEROUS MACHINE.
IN USE AT TE AROHA, HEAVY FINE IMPOSED. For using a dangerous machine a square-headed buzz plane—in the course of his business, Robert Woodroofe, Te Aroha, was fined £2O ! and costs when so charged before Mr Platts, S.M., at the Magistrate’s C°urt.
The Inspector of Machinery gave evidence of warning Wo o dr o of e of. the nature of the machine ,and its prohibition under the. Act. The machine had been'prohibited for some years, and Woodroofe was. given notice to convert it into the safe design. Howiever, this was not done. Then in. 1925 witness, when he inspected the works, was told that the machine was not in use, but the following year, in December, the machine was in use, while 'last December he had actually witnessed the machinle being used when he had called. The department regarded the offence as a very serious one.
The magistrate said that the fine was fixed by statute, and he accordingly fined Woodroofe £2O and costs.
