A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING. MORTGAGE TO 1 BANK. A general meeting of members of the Hauraki A. and P. Association was held at Mr Bain’s Rooms on Monday night, tihe president (Mr H. J. Hare) presiding over Messrs E. W. Porritt, W. D. Nicholas, W. F. John- ; stone, W. L. Lawrence, E. P. Fathers, D, Sheehan, P. R. Hubbard, an|d EEdwards (secretary). MORTGAGING OF PROPERTY; The president explained that the meeting had been c,ailed for the purpose of authorising, by resolution, the affixing of the association’s seal to mortgage to the National Bank of. New Zealand over the association’s, property. In answer to Mr Hubbard Mr Porritt said that a new mortgage was necessary °n account of disposing of a portion of the land to Mr J. Walls. A letter was received from Mr G. Buchanan advising that he -was quite agreeable to the new mortgage being given so long as provision was made to pay at least £5O a year out of rentals received to the bank in- per-
manent reduction of the overdraft. It was pointed out that Mr Buchanan’s letter did not greatly'affect the giving of a new mortgage, as the association would be protected on account of £75 a year it would receive for rent of. the saleyards. The following resolution was then moved by the president arid seconded by Mr W. D. Nicholas:— “That the association agrees to give a mortgage for the sum of £550 over the /association’s property to the National Bank of N.Z., Ltd-, Paeroa, and that the common seal of the afssociab tion be affixed io such mortgage and signed by the president (Mr H. J. Hare) and the secretary (Mr E. Edwards) on behalf of the association. The resolution was carried. DONATIONS RECEIVED. A letter was received from Mr J. A. Reid, Netherton, enclosing a cheque for £6, which represented his and Mr Andrews’ efforts in collecting for fluids in the Netherton district. ’lt was decided to record the assothanks to Messrs Reid and Andrews for the assistance given. It' was decided to write and thank
the N.Z. Friesian Association for its donation of a gold medal for the greatest nuinber of points gained in the Friesian classes at the December show, the winner being Mr J. Ward, Manawaru. Expression of thanks was also accorded to Mr R. B. Hines, Te' Aroha, and Mr C. W. Anderson, Kohimarama, for offers of. prizes of £2 2s. REPLICAS OF CUPS. It was suggested by Mr Porritt that the matter of giving >a replica of the Captain Hubbard Memorial Cup to the winner each year might very ‘well be considered. The secretary said that he had made enquiries and had found that the difficulty in obtaining replicas of the cup was the unusual, shape, and it would be necessary to send to England, at a fairly heavy expense. It was contended by Mr Nicholas that once the mould was obtained the association would be able to present a replica for all time. The matter was referred to Messrs Porritt and Nicholas to look into. ADDITIONAL ATTRACTIONS. With a desire to provide additional attractions on show day, Mr Porritt thought that the inicoming committee might consider the possibility of providing some competitions for motor-cars, and 'drivers. He believed such competitions would be well supported. '' A further suggestion .was made by Mr Fathers, who said that possibly whippet-racing could be introduced at the next show. Both suggestions were referred to the schedule committee. USE OF . Attention was drawn by Mr Sheehan to the fact that several of the association’s hurdles have been left lying about, and were in danger of being damaged. His offer to gather them up and place them in the association's shed was accepted with thanks. DECEMBER SHOW SUCCESSFUL. - . The secretary read a statement of receipts and expenditure for the December Show, and the figures indicated that the show had undoubtedly been a financial success. Accounts amounting to £.155 6s 7d were passed for payment. The president said that the financial statement as read showed a very satisfactory state of affairs and it was one of the<best years the association had enjoyed for a long time. These views were shared by several members.
Mr Fathers' paid a tribute to the work done by the secretary, and moved that the thanks of the association and also congratulations be accorded the president and-secretary for the success that had attended their efforts.
This was, seconded by Mr Hubbard,, and carried with acclamation.
