CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE
THE PAEROA UNION. GATHERING .AT KOMATA. At the invitation of the President, Mrs R. Hubbard, of Komata, the reopening meeting of the women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in the garden of • her residence on Wednesday l last. The weather was ideal, and the ladies who responded to the invitation to be present had a enjoyable time. Paeroa, Netherton, and Wharepoa were all well represented.
The devotional part of the meeting was conducted by Rev. W. B. Pickering, after which 'Mrs Hubbard extended a cordial welcome to all.
A musical and elocutionary programme was then rendered, songs being rendered by Mrs, Mitchell and Miss Dora Cocks, piano solos by Misses Joan Page (Dargavil.le) and Ratliff, a;nd elocutionary items by Mesdames Cattpn and Cocks.
Afternoon tea was served, satfter which Mr J. W. Cocks (orgartiser for the N-Z. Alliance) addressed the gathinfc on “ The place of the W.C.T.U. in the Campaign.” ■A cordial vote of. thanks to the President and helpers wasi proposed by Mr Cocks, seconded by Mrs) Wilsbir, and carried with enthusiasm. The membership of the branch was considerably at the close of the meeting. v
