Great praise for the Hauraki Plains red roads was given by Mr E. L. Amoore, a civil engineer of wide repute, who called on the County Council after its meeting yesterday. He stated that the red metal roads., despite their condition due to the. dry weather, were infinitely superior to other macadam roads in the province.

The cracking of concrete paths and cowyards, on the Hauraki Plains, due to the unequal . subsidence of the ground during the long spell of dry weather, is now becoming very extensive, and even thick concrete water troughs have cracked.

Some very fine crops, of maize are to be seen on the Hauraki Plains, and some few crops of lucerne are doing well.
