MISHAP ON DREDGE.
SPARK IGNITES BENZINE. HANDS OF DREDGEMAN BURNED. In saving a dredge from being burned an employee of the. Lands Drainage Department, Mr Ivan Wilkins, had both his hands severely burned last Tuesday. A spark which jumped the points of a switch on a Delco lighting plant on a dredge on the Hauraki Plains reclamation work ignited some benzine, and to prevent the fire from spreading Wilkins, carried the burning container outsider and threw it into the water. Very severe burns to both hands, resulted, but the dredge was saved.
