ASSISTED MIGRANTS.
KESTBICTLNG THE FLOW. reconsideration of position. The extended restrictions on assisted immigration to New Zealand have expired. An early reconsideration of the position by Cabinet is. likely, however, and it is anticipated that the restrictions will be again imposed for a further term. Owing to economic depression and the likelihood of unemployment, it was decided originally to restrict the flow of assisted immigrants during the winter months, the exception being members of separated families, domestic servants, and lads brought out under the Flock House, Salvation Army, and Church of England schemes,. Subsequently it was decided to extend the period of the restrictions, which were to expire on October 31, until December 31; and then, after further consideration, i until January 31. It is probable that the restrictions will now be extended until the end of the, current financial year.
