HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

MEETING OF UNITED .BOARD. The January meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board was held at Turn a on Friday, Mr F. Kneebpne presiding over Messrs J. C. Miller J. M. Thompson, F. L. Hamilton, W. McDuff, H. H. Hicks, and the clerk (Mr T. D. Wajlace. CENTRAL LOAN WORK. The Bank of New Zealand advised that it was prepared to take up the Board’s central loan of £looo’ at 6 per cent.- at par, less 1 per cent, commission. The preparation ofl the debentures’was in hand. The clerk stated that the money would be received shortly. With this money in sight it wajs decided that tenders, be called for removing the willow trees .and improving the Willow Drain up to the boundary of Mr Hicks’ section, and that aninspection be made of the Te Kauri No. 2 drain. On the same day the board would also inspect Price’s drain. ’ SUBSIDY. The chief drainage engineer, Auckland, forwarded £l4 Ils, being the final payment of, the £5OO £ for £ subsidy for drain cleaning. HORAHIA LOAN. The Bank of New Zealand forwarded a demand for £194 6s Bd, being six months’ interest on the Horahia district loan. The Minister of Finance wrote authorising the payment of interest at a rate not exceeding 7 per cent, per annum in respect of any sum not exceeding £3500 tliat had been or migfht be borrowed from the Bank of New Zealand on the security of hypothecated debentures to the face value of £4OOO issued in respect of the Horahia district’s loan of £15,500. The clerk stated that this was not now necessary, as the debentures had been sold. • WAIHOU STOP-BANK. The resident engineer of the Public Works Department, Paeroa, wrote advising that the present intention to continue the Waihou River stop-bank, left bank, not further than a point about 50 chains below the mouth of the Hikutaia creek. This position was roughly abreast of Bax’s landing on the right bank, and represented the point beyond which the river widened very considerably. As a result of this; decision the board’s outlets from Pprritt’s downstream would not be interfered with foy the present at any rate. • TE KAURI OUTLET. The chief drainage engineer forwarded details of, the expenditure in the Horahia-Opou special drainage district. There was an amount of £243 still available for work on the Te Kauri outlet. . It was decided to make an inspection of tlie area. PRIVATE FLOOD-GATES. Mr Hunter Murray Newman’s Road, Turua, applied for permission to construct flood-gates on his boundary' drains where they entered the Thames Valley drain.—Granted. GRADING BANKS. J. W. Tetley wrote asking the board’s intentions in regard to the spoil, removed from the Thames Valley drain and placed on his property. He pointed out that the arrangement under .which he permitted entrance on to his land was that the spoil be graded back. A similar request was received front A. J. Heaseman. It was decided not to grade .back, the spoil but to disc the banks andplant grass seed. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The foreman, Mr E. Flaivell, attended the meeting and reported that the fences along the drains in the properties <of Messrs McCfowatt, Dean, Ansford, Fox, Speedy, and. Mrs White had not yet been erected. The board decided, to take drastic action. Mr Flavell also reported that temporary fences had been erected on the properties, of Messrs' Heaseman, Tetley, Robertson, Hamilton, and Clark. Very slow progress was being made with the construction.'of the Te Kauri. PIAKO STOP-BANK* DRAIN. * It was decided to alpproach the Lands Drainage Department in regard to damage done ta the stop-bank drain ’py ,the erection of the Piako Riter stop-bank near Ngatea. TEI KAURI STOP-BANK. •Mr Hamilton reported having let a Contract for the erection of a, 'stopbank along the Te Kauri No. 1 drain at Is 9d for the first chain and Is a chain for the remainder. —Approved. PEKAPEKA ROAD PIPES. Mr J. M. Thompson vo’ced a request that larger pipes be installed under Pekapeka Road before it was metal- , led. It was. decided to have . the work done when a set of. pipes became available from Hauraki Road. NEW WORK. Mr Hicks urged that a special meeting should be held for the purpose of discussing the various requests for new work which had been deferred until funds became available. FINANCE.. The treasurer reported that rates collected since the previous meeting were : Hauraki area, £l4 6s 3d; Horahia alrea, £27 17s 9d. Tlie debit balance at the bank was £1655, and there was a credit of £54 in the loan account.
