PRESSED HAY SOUGHT.
SUPPLIES FOR AUCKLAND.
PURCHASES ON THE PLAINS. While the greater part of the rest of the province is suffering fr m the prolonged spell of dry weather, and feed for stock is becoming so short as to materially affect the milk yield and cause apprehension for the coming winter, the Hauraki Plains is benefiting more or less by the weather. Rain would be vry welcome to freshen up the pastures, but so far there is little shortage of feed, while the. dry, hot weather is causing the ground to crack in a manner which assures good sub-soil drainage in the coming winter. The shortage of feed in other districts is proving of benefit to so.me Plains farmers in that it has created a demand, hitherto not experienced in- this district, for pressed hayAnticipating this demand, one Plains fajrmer advertised hay for sale, and the response was such' that he could almost dictate terms. The price was very satisfactory, and the Auckland purchaser is sending a pressing plant and men to harvest the crop.
