MONTHLY MEETING. OF COUNCIL.

ROUTINE BUSINESS.

The first meeting this year of the Paeroa Borough Council was held last night, His Worship the Mayor (Mr WMarshall) presiding over Crs. E. Edwards, P. E. Brenan, J. W- Siltock, F. E. Flatt, H. J. Hares, Ei- A. Porritt, aral the Tdwn Clerk (Mr W. C. Alexander. ERECTION OF SIGN-BOARD. Permission was sought by K. L. Slyfield to erect a 7f.t by Bft notice board on the corner section adjoin’ng the iDhinemuri County Council officesCr. Edwards said that the signboard was required for general advertising purposes, and he saw no reason why permission should not be granted. It was resolved to grant the request subject to compliance with the by-laws. PRODUCTION OF LICENSES. The borough solicitor (Mr C. N. O’Neill) in reply to the town clerk’s inquiry, wrote advising that arising out of the recent summonses for negligent driving in the bdrough he had written asking for particulars of, the driver’s> license held by Mr Bedford. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. The Hamilton Borough Council wrote with reference to the allocation of heavy traffic fees for 1928-29, and subsequent years, and adyising that two local bodies in the district had been unable to accept the present basis of allocation for a further period, apd arrangements were being made for the matter to be dealt with by the Cdurt. Information was also received from the solicitors to the Hamilton Borough Council forwarding a copv of the application made t° the Stipendiary Magistrate at Ham'lton in connection with the matter.

The hearing of the application was set d c wn for January 16 at Hamilton.

The Waipa County Council, Te Awamutu, telegraphed advising that it intended applying for an adjuornment of the hearing until after the end of the current financial yeair, and asking if the borough council would be agreeable to an adjournment.

The Mayor said that a few hours’ notice only had been received to reply to the telegram.

After consultation with Cis. Edwards and Brenan it wa(s decided to reply that the- counted saw no reason why an adjournment should be sought. The reply Was approved. 1 DANGEROUS GOODS ACT. The Chief Inspector oif; Explosives Department of Internal Affairs wrote drawing attention to the fact that the regulations under the Explosives and Dangerous Goods Amendment, 1921, were based on the fact that all petrol was at that time imported in cases. The introduction of petrol in bulk had necessitated the Amendment of the regulations-, and a draft of the proposed regulations was forwarded for the information of the council.
