PAEROA WATER SUPPLY

NO SIGNS OF A SHORTAGE. RESTRICTIONS UNNECESSARY. The. position of the Paeroa water supply continues to be very satisfactory, and at present there are no signs of, a shortage. At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council CrB. Edwards reported that he had inspected the headworks at Tarariki Creek on Wednesday, and at 1 p.m. the water ,was just gently lapping over the reservoir. The da>m, was full of water, and the supply and surroundings were fresh and clean. The Ohinemuri County Council had the preparatory work well in hand for the impounding of andther stream near the headworks so as to provide for. additional reticulation!

Continuing, Ci'. Edwards said that at the present time there was no need for consumers to be “skimpy” with the water, and it was not necessary to impose any restrictions, on garden hosing. At the same time, the public should understand that while the supply was ample.it wphld not allow of wilful waste. Paeroa was in a very fortunate position in having such a valuable asset as an ample water supply of splendid quality. The Mayor thanked Cr. Edwards for having made an inspection at the headworks and for his report. The position as stated was very satisfactory, and while there wa|s a drawing on the reserve supply during the day, the amount used was easily made up for during the night- Many inquiries had been received in regard to the supply, and if garden hoses could be used. While there was no need for the council to impose any restricting, there was no room for wanton waste. Unquestionably..the public of Paeroa was in a very fortunate position. The Mayor said that the Railway Department consumed large quantities of water at the railway station. In order to conserve the supply the department had given an assurance /that the valves at the water-tanks would be investigated and screwed down to a minimum. The reason for shutting down the valves! was so that the filling of the engines would be slower, and a sudden drawing-off of a large volume of water would be obviated. He felt sure the council appreciated the department’s, willingness to co-operate in the matter.
