THE HALF HOLIDAY.
POSITION AT PAEROA. SATURDAY DECIDED UPON. Thp question of, deciding upon the statutory half-holiday for the ensuing twelve months was considered at a special meeting of, the Paerp®, Borough Council, In view of the fact that the Chamber Of Commerce had interested itself in the matter and had held a public meeting, there, was little for the members of. the council to do. • The question was introduced by the receipt of, a letter from the chamber advising that at a representative meeting of business men, shopkeepers, and others interested, convened bv the chamber, the desirab’lity of altering the statutory halfhefliday for the ensuing year was discussed- A resolution had been passed that in the opinion of the meeting the statutory half-holiday be observed as at present for the ensuing year. It had also been further resolved that the chamber call a meeting towards tlie end of the year with a view to d’scussing the desirability of taking a poll on the question prior to< the fixing of the day for 1929. Cr E; Edwards said he had attended the meeting, and after listening to the disc us ion he had been convinced that the business people, apajrt from the employees, desired that Saturday be reta’ned as the statutory half-holi-day. He moved that Saturday be tlie half-holiday for the enduing twelve months.
Seconded by Cr. F. E. Flatt and carried unanimously.
