LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES.

PAEROA A DEFEATS TE AROHA A.

-On Saturday afternoon last the Paer°a a team journeyed to Te Aroha, where it played its last game, in the second round of; the Piako Cricket Association’s competition, against the Te Aroha A team. After several defeats the visitors struck form on Saturday and secured a threp-point win. Paeroa batted first, Sale and Stack opening the innings. Sale was. dismissed very cheaply—before he Had broken his “duck’’ — being caught by the Te Aroha captain, Macbeth. A splendid stand, was made by Stack, who played solidly and carried his bat for 39. The veteran player H. M. Shand also struck form and played a fine innings for 28 runs, including four 4’s. The other double-; figure batsmen were Flower (19), Dare (13), and Meachem *(12). The innings produced 149 runs. The Te Aroha. innings was opened by Boyd and Macbeth, the latter being the only player to make a stand. He was responsible for 14 runs, while Bdiyd and Williams, with 7 and 6, re-' s.peetively, were the other principal scorers. The innings closed for 40 runs. Requiring 110 runs to pass the visitors’ first Inning score, the home team batted on for a second innings, in which 49 runs were compiled.
