AWAITI DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF ELSTOW BOARD. DIFFERENCE WITH A SETTLER? At the last- meeting of the Elstow Drainage Board Mr M. H. Wynyard, writing in. regard to the drain on the Otway road, said he would see the district engineer of the Public Works Department the following week on the matter. In regard to the Awaiti agreement, he had beien informed by the Under-Secretary when in/Wellington that the department had a favourable opinion of their powers in connection with the drain about which there had beejnso much dispute, and which opinion coincided with the views he (Mr Wynyard) had expressed. Mr Wynyard reported verbally with reference to the Awaiti drainage and the difference that had arisen between the board and Mr Considine. Mr Carter said that Mr Considine ..had refused to put blocks in his drain so that one-third of the water could be sent Awaiti way and two-thirds towards Nether ton. The matter was, left in the; hands of Messrs Wynyard aild Carter. BOUNDARY DRAINS. Mr Carter, reporting on the Elstow and Ilauraki districts’ boundary drains, said he had communicated with Mr Murray, but owing to o,ne of the rules of the board that prevented it from receiving a deputation unless written notice had been sent he had not been able to wait on the board at its last meeting. He would, however, attend the; next meeting. No finality could be reached until he had discussed with Mr Young, of Turua Road, the best boundary. He and Mr Young could then wait on the United Board.
