MONSTER MEETING AT PAEROA.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR FEBRUARY.
The popularity of cycle-racing in Paeroa and the Thames Valley has led. to the Paeroa Athletic Club announcing a, mop&ter gala, to be held on the Paeroa Domain on Saturday, February 4, 1928. The gala announced as “Three ..big shows rolled into one,” is undoubtedly an ajnbitious enterprise for this young club. , The; main section is the cycling, and for this the prizes, offered are the best in the Auckland, province this season—:ifj not the best in New Zealand—and it is anticipated that competitors from as far afield as. the South Island will be in Paeroa on February 4. The events include handicaps of five, three and a-half, three, two and one; mile, with a £5 5s points prize, and also a consolation race of one and a-half miles- A departure from the usual is. also announced in the 10s prize for each heat in the mile cycle, event.
With the support of th® school, authorities of the district athletics among tlie children sohuld receive a well-deserved boost through the efforts of the Paeroa Athletic Club. A programme.- of 18 junior evejnts has been included, and will, doubtless draw large fields. The nominations for all junior events is free, and the prizes, will be trophies. The of the Waihi Federal Band are also under arrangement, and it is reported that a specially selected programme of music is being arranged.
