CORRESPONDENCE.
CTo the Editor.} Sir, —It has been my custom since leaving about years ago to pay a short visit to Pae : roa ,at Christmas. On my last visit, a week ago, I had the good fortune to see Paeroa at its best on Christmas. Eve. I was agreeably surprised at the number of new and up-to-date buildings in the main street which compare very favourably with those of any town, and judging by the large number of people, all busily engaged in Christmas shopping -’-and incidentally the numerous motor-cars parked in the -side-streets —demonstrated clearly that people from outside are being attracted to> the town. On Christmas Pay I visited the local cemetery which, by the way, on my previous yearly visits al-> ways presented a clean and well-kept appearance ; but on this occasion to my .amazement I found it overgrown with blackberry, fern, and weeds, and anything but a credit to the, town. During 1927 Paeroa lost a worthy citizen in the person of Mr E. Shaw, wtho saw to it that the Cemetery was not neglected. Is it too much to ask that out of respect to the memory of the late Mr S.hajv and other worthy citizens whose last resting place; is in ' this cemetery,, the local authorities see to it that this blot is removed and that “God’s Acre’’ be at least kept clean and tidy. GEO. DEAN. 10 Rose Road, Ponsonby, Auckland. Cemetery is vested in the OhinemUri- County, and not in the Paeroa Borough Council.—Ed.]
