In these days an apprentice jockey can earn a large sum in riding fees alone if he; shows ability as a horseman. The Wanganui apprentice, T. W. Green, rode 11 winning horses during the period extending from December 26 to January 3, Ellerslie, Palmerston North, Mastertdn being the places at which he steered winners. Green’s fees for services at the Auckland meeting amounted to approximately £240.
