CONCERT AT TURUA.

VISIT OF LYRIC FOUR. A MUSICAL TREAT. Another enjoyable concert was given by the Lyric Four, of Auckland, in the Town Hall, Turua, on Saturday evening. The attendance was not quite as large as on the occasion of the previous visit of the party, but the hall was almost filled.

The programme was of high merit, and every item was deservedly encored. The party opened with “ Dinah,” and followed with “ Peggy.” Mr Alan McElwain tnen gave the humorous item “ Nell,” and as an encore “ Evan’s Deg Hospital.” Miss Alma McGruer, soprano, sang “Prince Charming,” and when recalled “The Charmr of Spring,” and Messrs. McElwain and Thomas sang the duet “ The Gendarmes,” followed by “Twin Duet.” The tenor svlo, “Evening Song,” was contributed by Mr A. HRipley, the encore item being “Mary.” The party closed the first part of the programme with “Plantation Melodies,” and “The Way ofi the World.”

Opening again the quartette gave “Dance of the Gnomes,” and “Summer Lullaby,” two verj r appealing numbers. Mr H. Richards, tenor, sang “ The Secret,,” and that old favourite, “Old Fashioned Town.” Scena from the opera “Maritana” were given by Miss McGruer and Messrs Ripley and Thomas, the numbers, introduced being “Alas, Those Chimes,” “Turn on, Old Time,” and “Let me like a Soldier Fall.” Mr Thomas’ deep bass voice was heard in “Three for Jack” and Nuvana,” and when recalled the second time lie gave a humorous number at the piano entitled “Noah More..” More humour by Alan McElwain fallowed, the numbers being “Levinsky’s Wedding” and, by request, “The Champagne Battles,” and when recalled “The J.P.” The closing items .were by the quartette, which contributed “The Long Day Closes” and “Curly-headed Babby.”
