PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING

ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee was held on Saturday night last, the chairman (Mr W. T. Power) presiding over Messrs J. C. H. McDonald, C. T« Mettam, J. W. Silcock, W. Purdie, C. H. Pascoe, W. Smith, R. J. Thorp, GH. Taylor (headmaster), and W. L. Lawrence (secretary). , , FOOTPATH SWEEPING. , A letter was received from Paeroa Borough Council advising that following on the request from. thq. committee steps had been taken to enforce the by-law relative to the sweeping of footpaths during the period between 8 and 9 a m. It was resolved to write and. express appreciation to the council for its cooperation and prompt action. DENTAL TREATMENT.. A letter was? received from the Hikutaia School Committee expressing thanks for having the pupils of that senool included in the rota for dental treatment. In reply to the chairman the secretary stated that although treatment had been given, the Hikutaia and Karangaiiake committees had not forwarded any contributions to the dental clinic fund. It was resolved that the committees concerned be written >to asking that donations be forwarded towards the maintenance of the clinic. BICYCLE SHED. On behalf ot the visiting committee Mr McDonald reported that the extra bicycle shed had been completed except for painting, and splendid value had been receivedIt was decided to authorise the purchase of sufficient paint to cover the shed, and also an additional 30ft of timber for bicycle racks. GROUND IMPROVEMENTS. It was resolved to apply to the Education Board for a supply off tar for the boys’ lower playground, and that the committee find the necessary sand. A sub-committee, comprising Messrs McDonald, Chamberlain, and Smith, was set up to have the work carried out during the holidays., Several members paid a tribute to the good work done and the beauty"of the school flower gardens. The secretary was authorised to engage a person to care for the gardens and grounds during the holidays. INSPECTION REPORT. A very satisfactory report was received from the Education Board’s inspectors relative to their visit of inspection to the primary department in September. In moving that a letter of congratulation and appreciation be forwarded to the headmaster and his staff the chairman said that the report was very gratifying and reflected great credit. MEETING NIGHT. Several members spoke of the unsuitability of Saturday night as a meeting night during the summery months. • After some discussion it was resolved that the meeting night" 'be changed to the first Thursday in each month, and that the next regular meeting be held on February 2. It was also resolved that Mr McDonald and the secretary be authorised to deal with matters requiring attention during the interim. CHRISTMAS GREETINGS.

It being the last meeting in 1927, the chairman, on behalf of the committee, extended to the headmaster and his staff seasonal greetings, .and expressed the hope that they would all th roughly enjoy and benefit from tlie holidays. In thanking Mr Taylor and his colleagues for the valuable assistance and co-operation he had received, the chairman said that the year bad been a very full- one and much progress had been made. Mr Taylor suitably acknowledged the greetings, which, he said, were heartily reciprocated. It had been a pleasure to lend any assistance he could to the committee, and he looked forward to a continuance of the same happy relations during 1928.

On behalf of the committee Mr McDonald extended greetings to the chairman and wished him, his wife, and family a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New. Year. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman, Mr McDonald and the secretary were deputed to visit the school on “breaking-up” day, December 20.
