LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES. PAEROA DEFEATS NETHERTON. On Saturday afternoon the Paeroa Tennis Club sent a team to play an inter-club match at Netherton. Perfect weather prevailed, apd after an interesting contest the visitors won by six games. Following are the details, Paeroa players being mentioned first in ea.h instance;: — Men’s,. Singles.—G. Men’s Doubles.—Swann and Wejls beat Fisher and Carter, 7 —l; Conolly and O’Neill beat E- Potter and Maloney, 7--2; Insley and Hawes beat W. Potter and Brown, 7—l. Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses H. Taylor and Thorp lost to Mrs .and M.iss Matthews, 4—6 ; Misses Argali and Masters lost to Mrs Maude and Miss Sarjant, 6 ; Misses E. Hayward and E. Freeman beat Mesdames Richmond and W. Potter, 6—4. Combined Doubles.—Miss Hayward and Hayward beat Mrs Potter and W. Potter 6 —4 ; Miss Freeman and McCarroll lost to Miss Sarjant and Brown, 3—6. Results : Paeroa, 8 sets (84 games); Netheirton, 8 sets (70 games). MATCHES ON THE PLAINS. WILLIAMS SHIELD COMPETITION. The first eliminating round of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association’s competition for the He well Williams Memorial Shield was played on Saturday. At Waitakaruru the Kopuarahi team was beaten by eight sets to five, or 86 games to 73. Kqrepeehi beat Mangawjiero, at Mangawhero, also by eight sets to five, the difference in the number of games being 29. The Ngatea team, on its own. courts, beat the Hopai team by one se,t, although Hopai won one more game.
