Messrs George Ellis, of Melbourne, and C. J. Ellis, of Sydney, are on a. visit to their brother, Mr W. J. Ellis, of this town. They are both old Thames boys. Mr George Ellis was tiie first apprentice in the boiler-making department of Messrs Price Bros., of Thames, and as soon as he had served his time he went over to Australia. There,, after some ramblings, he joined up with the Victorian Railway Department, and remained with them until his retirement, a few weeks ago, on superannuation. This is his first visit home for forty-four years. Mr C. J. Ellis commenced his career at the “Advertiser” office, at Thames, and after serving portion of his apprenticeship left for Auckland, where he completed his term. Just over forty years ago he left flor Tasmania, but returned to New Zealand two year? later. He then left for Australia, and this, also, is his first visit to the land of ihjs birth since them Naturally they are; both keenly interested in Paeroa and the development of the district, which was to a great extent scarcely cultivated in those early days.
