NGATEA SCHOOL.

IMPROVEMENTS TO GROUNDS. OUTLINE OF SCHEME. An outline of the movement to improve the grounds of the Ngatea District High School, for which purpose subscriptions are now being sought, was given by thei headmaster, Mr W. Chappell, at the garden party in tire school grounds <-n Tuesday evening. Mr Chappell referred to the state of the grounds during the winter months, and pointed out that improvements could be, made so as to provide a dry playing area in any weather. It was hoped to extend the floral borders and to provide concrete kerbing for the various paths. The agricultural experimental plots, so necessary at all district h'gh schools, wore to be extended ; the shrubbery would be improved, a concrete cricket pitch laid down, and an ornamental pergola erected in place of the entrance gate;. All this work could be done if the people of the district took an interest in the matter and acted for the welfare of their children and for the children of the, future. Only one-third of the cost needed to be raised by the people of the district, as subsidies would be obtained from the Education Board and the Education Department.
