PROGRESS IN OHINEMURI.
ENGINEER’S MONTHLY REPORT
The following report was submitted by the acting engineer (Mr L. E. Shaw) at tlrt meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council yesterday
“Paeroa Riding.—Ordinary maintenance has been carried on in this riding dining the month, all roads having received attention. Severn’ bridges have been repair' 1 '!, and aS others are in need of attention ic will oq necessary to have a quantity of timber on hand, as the stock is very low.
“ Kaimanawa Riding.—Maintenance as usual has been carried out, the motor truck''still not being available to cart the metal required.
“ Waikino Riding.—Ail the metal roads have beeiri receiving attention, and as satisfactory arrangements have been made for working the grader the clay roads will be iegradqd as soon as possible. “Waihi Riding.—The roads in this riding are in good order. Timber 's required for repairs to two bridges on the Old Te Aoha Road. “ Hamilton-Paeroa Main Highway. —A good deal of work has been carried out on this length of road during the month, two culverts having been lengthened and the formation widened. Blinding of the metal was continued. A start was made on the Waitoki-Mangaiti section of grading in the shoulder, a tractor being hired for the purpose;, but owing to the owner wanting an excessive price for its hire the work was discontinued. “Pokeno-Waihi Main Highway.— The council’s truck has been working full time on this road' delivering metal from the Crown quarry on- to the section between Turner’s Hill and Waikino. This portion is now showing an improvement, but. a considerable amount of metal Is still required. “The timber for the re-decking of the Waitekauri Stream bridge has come to .hand, and the work will be put in hand during the coming month.
“A 1 footbridge has beien erected alongside the traffic bridge at. the Waihi Gold Mining Company’s waterrace overflow at Waikino.
“Paeroa Water Supply.—Surveys in connection with the supplementing of the water supply are, in .hand. Plans and specifications of the access road to the new dam site are now ready for the water supply committee’s inspection.
“Abattoirs. —Renovations to buildings at the abattoirs, as authorised at last meeting, have been put in hand. The concreting being now complete, the timber work will be proceeded with as soon as material arrives. “Government Grants.—The contract for metalling Old Tauranga Road is nearing completion, and should be finished - at the end of next week. “Reconditioning of Maratoto Road from Mcßrinn’s Creek to the Ohinemuri Godl and Silver Mine is now finished, and awaits the inspection of the Public Works Department. “Plans and specifications of the Snakey Bend deviation have been sent for the approval of the Public Works Department.”
