CRICKET DISPUTE.

B MATCH.

GROUNDS FOR PROTEST. No advice has yet been received by the Morrinsville Cricket Club from the Piako Cricket Association, with which a protest was lodged in connection with the 1 match against Paeroa B (states the Morrinsville Star). A three-point win is claimed on the following grounds:— 1. The Paeroa team arrived fully an hour late. 2. As a result of this late arrival it was definitely agreed between the umpires and the respective captains than an extra half-hour be played. 3. Morrinsville batted first, scoring 41 runs, to which Paeroa replied with a total of 72. 4. Morrinsville then commenced its second innings, and declared with 106 runs for four wickets, leaving Paeroa roa. B 76 runs to win. The Morrinsville club’s declaration was made by the club captain at 6 ,30 p.m., he relying upon the definite agreement that play would in any case be extended to 7.30 p.m.

5. Paeroa B commenced its second innings, and at 7 p.m. the batsmen who were then batting left the field in breach of the abovementioned agreement and the Paeroa team proceeded on its way home. Stumps were then drawn, Paeroa B having lost seven wickets for 36 runs. Morrinsville claim that t'hey should be awarded a three-point win on the fact that there was a definite breach of an agreement as to time, and, further, that had the agreement not been broken their club would almost certainly have secured a three-poipt win in any event.
