TUBERCULAR PATIENTS.
QUESTION OF TREATMENT.
CONSIDERATION BY MINISTER.
WELLINGTON, November 24.
The treatment of tubercular patients was raised in the House to-day by Sir George Hunter (Waipawa), who asked the Minister of Health, Hon. J. A. Young, whether he would consider allowing tubercular patients who were incurable to remain in the sanatoria and not be removed to public hospitals as was the practice at present. The Minister said that in such matters he hadt o be, advised by the experts of his department. The purpose of the sanatoria was really to teach the patients how to take care of, themselves so that they would be fit for life and work afterwards. Where patients were in a chronic state it was recognised that they were a liablitiy on the hospital district in which they resided. He was prepared, however, to consider the point with the department to ascertain whether anything could be done.
